Corporate Governance
““If management is about running the business, governance is about seeing that it is run properly.””
The Governance Institute of Australia defines governance as “the system by which an organisation is controlled and operates, and the mechanisms by which it, and its people, are held to account. Ethics, risk management, compliance and administration are all elements of governance.”
Good governance enables an organisation to operate more efficiently leading to stronger accountability, transparency and trust. A good governance framework enables effective and responsible decision making that helps shape an organisation’s culture and drive its overall performance.
Essence will partner with you to provide a comprehensive review of your governance framework to ensure it aligns with and supports the strategic objectives of your organisation by:
undertaking an analysis of your organisation’s current state governance framework
advising on improvements on how to achieve a “best fit” corporate governance framework that supports the operating environment and the achievement of strategic goals.
appraising and advising on internal controls, policies and procedures for the effective monitoring and controlling of corporate governance systems such as financial and risk management systems.
providing guidance with respect to governance meetings, including providing practical tools and templates, to assist your organisation’s compliance requirements.
conducting a risk maturity review and collaborating with your internal team to establish appropriate risk management strategies, risk appetites, frameworks and capabilities to enhance corporate confidence and strengthen decision making.
developing, within your team, a strong understanding of best practice governance and the long term value it adds to your organisation, including building an effective secretariat capability, risk management capability and other key corporate governance skills.
